According to the “online” dictionary the following are definitions of “Home”:
• A place where one lives,
• A physical structure within which one lives,
• A dwelling place together with the family or social unit that occupies it,
• A place, such as a country or a town, where one was born or has lived for a long period,
• The native habitat, as of a plant or an animal.

To me, “Home” is one of my favorite words and for sure my most favorite place to be. In my wallet I carry a small picture of the home in which my parents lived for 62 years. It represents safety, love, acceptance, laughter and the best possible values one could ever have been taught. I know that is not what home means to everyone and that is unfortunate for sure. I know every story in every home is not a happy story. And through my years in real estate, unfortunately, I have seen some pretty unhappy stories. A big part of our job as a Realtor is often to act as a mediator, a therapist, a grief counselor, and sometimes just to listen and be a friend.

When the buyer is buying the house, things are usually pretty happy. Sometimes it is a first home, sometimes it is up sizing because more
children arrive.

Eventually it is downsizing because the children have left (but they can come back as we all know)

Of course, there is a lot to be said on the matter, but I'm leaving you with this for now: Although I do realize the world has changed, buyers and sellers have changed, housing and realty have changed... Home hasn't changed: it is still the place where stories begin. That is why I love what I do and have had the good fortune to do it for so long.

Till next time,

Mary Lindsay
