A HOLE IN ONE-FOR ONE OF US!

Yes, David had a Hole in One at The Royal Ottawa Golf Club on September 12th. What a super way to wind down the golf season. He was pretty excited as you can imagine. We all had a rainy summer and so these gorgeous September days have been a great bonus. My golf is not worthy of space in this or any newsletter-we will leave it at that. They don’t make much of a Hole in 8 or so.
Our first week in Maine was very rainy, but being ever the cheery little soul I went around saying,”I love the rain...feels so good on my face...great for the skin…yadayada ”Well by the middle of the second week, with everything wet and cold and damp in our 80 year old frame cottage, we reluctantly packed up the car and came home. We have been going to Maine for 35 years and have experienced a fair amount of Maine Rain...but this summer really pushed the envelope! For everybody, didn’t it?
Remember the renovations I told you about at our house…started the end of May and was suppose to be just the main bathroom (David’s Bathroom)...well, I have a new phrase added to my renovation story, “While you are here…”We are almost finished now, mid September… The bathroom is stunning I must say! And all eleven new solid doors and hardware in the whole house have been replaced, as have the other toilets (energy efficient). The new glass tile backsplash in the kitchen is sleek and stunning, the marble radiator slabs on each and every radiator add a nice touch, the black granite is nice in the kitchen, and of course “while the painters are here…” the halls, master bedroom, two bathrooms other than the new one all got a fresh coat of paint. It is very dangerous to have these fine trades people (Crossford Construction have the best trades people!) in your home doing such good work as I found myself saying over and over, “While you are here….”. Oh dear!
The real estate market has been very strong the last few months. There was a slowdown in the spring, as people seemed to sit back and see where the economy was heading. But all of a sudden they all came to life again and as usual all at the same time. After 25 years one thing I love about my work is that no two years or even seasons follow a pattern. Each generation of buyers bring new challenges and new personalities to the market. The newer younger generation is very savvy due to Internet access to new listings almost as quickly as we have access. Much of their information has been obtained before we meet them. However the physical experience of walking a neighbourhood and visiting homes, looking up and down and behind properties cannot occur online.
I feel secure in our business knowing that we must tweak some of our skills, and already have, but when it comes right down to the negotiating of a family home, or a first time purchase of a home, or the estate sale of a long time residence, or negotiating a marriage break up sale, the skilled, knowledgeable third party is needed as much as ever.
And so as we head in to October I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and lots of fall walks in the country, if you can get away, The Gatineau, outside our doorstep is as nice a place as any in North America-we are blessed. And I thank you for your referrals to friends and family that is the greatest compliment to us.
