Summer vacation

Hi Everyone,
It is amazing to me, I begin my 25th year in real estate this fall. I am still in the same office, working for the same company and interestingly there are still many of the same people. That is unusual for our industry.I feel so fortunate , we have wonderful people in our company. We are led by an exceptional owner and his wife, .Mary and Kent Browne , who along with their teen aged daughter went this summer for two weeks to the Dominican Republic for a Habitat for Humanity like organization , to assist in the building of two new homes .This group have now built 500 homes for people in this area .Kent and Mary are very involved in giving back to the community here and elsewhere and seem to attract like minded people to their employ. Kent started his career three months before I started mine. Several years ago he bought the franchise Royal LePage Team Realty and I think it fair to say we have an excellent reputation in the entire industry ,in Ottawa and across Canada. Our job is so much easier when we don’t have to sell our company .Just to say,”I am with Royal LePage Team Realty” speaks well for itself.
We had a lovely summer, in spite of the constant rain .We took our annual two week vacation in Maine in June, a long weekend in New York in August and then back to Maine at summer end for ten more days .We visited the Tenement Museum on Orchard Street in New York. One block of the building has been left pretty much as it was in the mid 1800s. The small apartment we visited would have had a family of ten or twelve living there with just one small bedroom ,small living room and tiny enclosed kitchen ,of course no indoor plumbing or electricity .Outside at the back was a small courtyard for the children to play ,the laundry to hang and contained several outdoor privies .I wondered why these people would not have continued further inland and set up a homestead etc but of course they had no money at all and once off the boat in New York could go no further .We were told that the Irish were the most reviled of the immigrants. This was not a fun tour, but a very interesting one. I would recommend the Tenement Museum on a visit to NYC .One could only think of the 6000 sq ft plus houses being built for families of 4 or less and wonder how we got from there to here in only 150 years. We are told that the trend in the USA is to homes much much larger than 6000sq ft.
John ,Margo, Heather and Abi moved to their first home in August .They had previously been living in a semi detached house up the street .To the market came a wonderful home of 70 years or so .It backs right on to the Queensway, but has a lovely deep yard. The home was lovingly cared for by a family for 50 years or so .The details are exquisite in this house, seven stained glass windows, oak beamed coffered ceilings in the dining room, a lovely pine paneled den off the dining room, a front veranda .It is what I call a “ feel good” house-the kind of house you just want to stay in .They were very lucky as after a couple of weeks of sitting on the market and being rejected due to “Location” they took a look, and poof-that was that .This area of the city has been home to John most of his life and to Margo and the girls for many years. They are thrilled.
