Creating Romance in your Home

When February hits I start seeing red and feeling romantic, well not really but love surely is in the air during the month that commemorates St. Valentine.

In our home we love to celebrate just about anything and by the time February comes along we have recovered from too much merriment in December and too little in January. This fun holiday, that hits smack in the middle of the shortest month, is one of my favorites. Valentine’s Day is a simple holiday to prepare for; break out some chocolate, red roses, scatter a few heart shapes around and you’re all set! Create an aura of romance in the house by arousing the senses.

Silk and velvet are sensual fabrics to the touch so check out Home Sense or Winners for some creamy white throw cushions in velvet or look to a fine linen store and pick up silk or satin pillow cases to stir a little sensuality in the bedroom.

Red is one of the most intense and provocative colours to use when decorating. Bring this passionate hue home through a bouquet of roses and place them in the entry so guests will see and smell the passion the moment they enter your home.

Hearts are a symbol of love. Small, heart shaped, candy bowls filled with cinnamon hearts should be placed around the house.

Mood music sets a romantic tone. Burn a CD with some of these romantic songs:

- Grow Old With Me by John Lennon
- Can t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley
- Unforgettable by Nat King Cole
- Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel
- We ve Only Just Begun by The Carpenters
- I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston
- Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton
- You are so Beautiful by Joe Cocker
- When a Man Loves a Woman by Percy Sledge
- After All these Years by Vince Gill.

Treat your lover to a massage. Blend 10 drops of Rose oil with 2 drops of Ylang-ylang, 8 drops of lemon oil and 10 drops of Palma rosa to concoct a lovers massage oil.

Finally be sure to keep plenty of chocolate on hand, only the finest will do because if this romantic holiday doesn t quite work out the way you hope nothing soothes a broken heart better than the taste of rich dark chocolate.

You can write to me and share your ideas and suggestions about home renovation, decorating and more!
