Start fresh!

As we make our way into a new year there is a yearning to start fresh, not only do we want to whip our bodies into shape but our homes as well!

2006 offers some exciting new trends in home decorating and my favorite is the movement towards luxury.

I have always been a firm believer in treating your home as a sanctuary and making it feel warm, inviting and luxurious and now trend forecasters are with me on this and filling the market place with luxury items at everyday prices, because having it all is a trend!

Buy a new throw for the sofa. I don’t think we realize how ratty looking these well used blankets get. Replacing them each year is wise.

Add this year’s hottest metal, gold. What could be more luxurious than bringing gold into the home? Add it with a framed mirror in the entry hall or some brass candlesticks to the mantle.

Splash crystal and glass around the house; check out Home Sense and Winners for great deals on vases and other accessories trimmed with crystal drops and jewels.

Warm up sofas and chairs with richly textured throw cushions in velvet, suede or needle point.

Replace utilitarian soap dispensers with a glass soap dish filled with decorative soaps, to be used!

Bring leather into the home. This durable fabric can be found on everything from sofas to lamps.

Good lighting livens up a room, eases the eyes when reading and is more a necessity than a luxury but with floor lamps making a come back it is also a trend!

My favorite way to treat myself, and our home, is with fresh flowers. At this time of year I pick up potted spring bulbs once a week, while grocery shopping, it makes me feel like spring is just around the corner!

Now write to me and share your ideas and suggestions about home renovation, decorating and more!
